His research interests range from the study of rural and urban settlement systems in the Adriatic regions of southern Italy during the Roman, Late Antique, and Medieval periods, to the analysis of settlement patterns, site morphology, land-use strategies, production systems, and resource management. His most recent research projects focus on the study of the historical landscapes of northern coastal Apulia, with particular attention to environmental history, the reconstruction of paleoenvironmental settings, and the characterization of local socio-ecological systems from both synchronic and diachronic perspectives. He is the author or co-author of the volumes <em>Aufidus. Storia, archeologia e paesaggi della valle dell&#8217;Ofanto<\/em> (Bari 2011); <em>La Puglia nel mondo romano. Storia di una periferia<\/em>, Volumes II and III (Bari 2017 and 2023); and <em>Salapia-Salpi 1.
