The American Journal of Archaeology<\/em> (ISSN 0002-9114; E-ISSN 1939-828X), the journal of the Archaeological Institute of America<\/a>, was founded in 1885 and is one of the world\u2019s most distinguished and widely distributed peer-reviewed archaeological journals. The AJA<\/em> reaches more than 40 countries and approximately 700 universities, learned societies, departments of antiquities, and museums. The scope of the journal is described in the Editorial Policy and Statement of Purpose<\/a>. The current joint Editors-in-Chief are Robert Schon and Emma Blake.\u00a0Browse a timeline slideshow<\/a> documenting the history of the AJA<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The AJA<\/em> is published quarterly (January, April, July, and October) in print and electronic formats and is available through subscription and non-subscription access options<\/a>. The digital AJA is published in association with the University of Chicago Press<\/a>. The AJA is also available on JSTOR<\/a> with a five-year moving wall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The AJA<\/em> is indexed in ABS International Guide to Classical Studies<\/em>, Anthropological Literature: An Index to Periodical Articles and Essays<\/em>, Art Index<\/em>, Avery Index to Architectural Periodicals<\/em>, Book Review Index<\/em>, Current Contents\u2013Arts & Humanities<\/em>, European Reference Index for the Humanities (ERIH)<\/em>, Humanities Index<\/em>, Humanities International Complete<\/em>, International Bibliography of Periodical Literature in the Humanities and Social Sciences (IBZ), Web of Science\u2019s Arts & Humanities Citation Index<\/em>, and Wilson Web. The AJA<\/em> is archived in Portico<\/a>, CLOCKSS<\/a> and LOCKSS<\/a>, and is a member of Crossref<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Open access<\/a> content is published on the AJA<\/em> website. Abstracts, tables of contents, and author profiles<\/a> are also freely accessible. The AJA Archive<\/a> includes links to all published content from the first volume in 1885 to the present, and a powerful site search allows for content discovery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Up-to-date AJA<\/em> news is circulated via the AJA<\/a> and AIA<\/a> e-updates, Facebook<\/a>, and academic listservs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
