Alfredo Carannante is Head of the Mediterranean Archaeology Department of the International Research Institute for Archaeology and Ethnology (IRIAE) in Italy. Archaeozoologist and geoarchaeologist, he is a specialist on the exploitation of marine resources in antiquity, evolution of the coastal landscapes, and ancient gastronomy. He is a member of numerous archaeological missions in Italy, Greece, Cyprus, Egypt, Eritrea, Oman, and Japan, for which he oversaw the bioarchaeological and geoarchaeological analysis and directed teams of specialists.
